Crystal Dynamics reduces workforce by 20 roles

Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics has announced further workforce reductions, affecting 20 employees in its development and central operations departments.

In a statement on LinkedIn, the studio said it had reviewed team structures to “ensure they align with [its] long-term goals,” which led to layoffs.

“While we always strive to transition people into new roles whenever possible, we have unfortunately reached a point where these departures are necessary,” it said.

Crystal Dynamics remains “fully committed to the future development of [its] already announced Tomb Raider titles,” including the remake of 1996’s Legacy of Atlantis and a new entry in the series, Tomb Raider: Catalyst. Both titles were announced at The Game Awards in December.

“We are incredibly grateful for the passion and hard work these individuals have poured into our games and our studio,” it said. “We are providing them with severance and job placement assistance to help them land their next opportunity.”

“This is a difficult day for our studio, and we never make these decisions lightly, particularly after the restructuring we underwent last year.”

This restructuring included three rounds of layoffs in 2025. 17 employees were laid off in March, an unknown number in August, and 30 workers in November.
