Sega increases Japanese base salaries by 10%, stating its human resources are “essential to achieving our mission”

Sega has confirmed its raising the salaries of all its Japanese employees by around 10%, including its starting salaries for new hires.

In a statement, the company said the new pay scales will go live from April 1, 2026, including pay for graduates, who can expect entry-level salaries to start from around ¥330,000 ($2131).

“We will revise the base salary of existing full-time employees in Japan by an average of approximately 10% […] incorporating a portion of bonuses, and revising our flexible compensation system according to role,” the company said (as translated by machine).

“Our mission is to ‘Empower the Gamers: Continuing to create moving experiences,’ and we provide entertainment content and services to the world. We believe that human resources are essential to achieving our mission and creating and providing new value, and we are working to reform our personnel system in various ways to ensure that employees can maximise their potential in a comfortable working environment.

“In addition to establishing a compensation system that rewards employees according to their roles and contributions, we are also working to expand measures that support working styles that allow each employee to live the life that suits them best, such as the ‘Fami+ System,’ which supports childcare and nursing care, and the ‘Job+ System,’ which supports side jobs aimed at creating new innovations.”

The company finished on stating it would “continue to create a system that allows employees to grow while realizing diverse working styles, and strive to provide even more moving experiences globally.”

Sega last announced it would be increasing the salaries of all its workforce in Japan back in February 2023, attributing the compensation rise to “further stabilise employee income and create a more comfortable working environment, as well as to further strengthen its global competitiveness.”
