Alongside its earnings report, Roblox has announced that it has paid out a billion dollars to game creators using its Developer Exchange program, already surpassing the $923M total of 2024. The company stated that this is the first time this figure has been achieved in a calendar year (having previously highlighted a billion-dollar payout of the “previous year” in announcements at its Roblox Developer Conference).
That event saw the announcement of an 8.5% increase in the conversion rate for users cashing out their platform currency Robux into dollars. The rate was raised to $0.0038 for every earned Robux, which increased the value of 30,000 earned Robux from $105 to $114. (Purchased Robux cost users $300 for 30,000).
The company stated that the top 1,000 creators on the platform earned an average of $1.1M, an increase of 40% YoY. Q3 creator earnings totalled of $427.9M, an 85% YoY increase. The company claims that 47% of creators wouldn’t earn income without Roblox, and only 25% of them hold a university degree. 74% of the developers on the platform work solo.
Some of the platform’s most popular games this year have been user-created, with titles like Grow A Garden and Steal A Brainrot attracting millions of concurrent users. Roblox users can also earn money by selling items in the game.
Roblox reported robust growth in its financial results, with a growing audience chiefly playing on mobile and PC. Separate research by NewZoo has suggested that the player base is aging yet still playing the game, with 54% YoY growth in players aged over 13.
