Roblox records “better than expected” Q3 results

Roblox has reported “better than expected” performance in revenue and bookings during Q3, with results exceeding both its top and bottom line guidance.

The numbers

• Revenue: $1.35 billion, up 48% year-on-year
• Bookings: $1.92 billion, up 70% year-on-year
• Net losses: $257 million, compared to $240 million during the same quarter last year

Roblox also reported the following key metrics:

• Average Daily Active Users (DAUs): 151.5 million, up 70% year-on-year
• Hours engaged: 39.6 billion, up 91% year-on-year
• Average monthly unique payers (MUPs): 35.8 million, up 88% year-on-year

Roblox CEO and founder David Baszucki cited strengths in its platform and creator ecosystem as the main drivers of growth, including “strategic investments in creator economics, platform performance, discovery, and the virtual economy.”

Among its DAUs, Roblox saw strong user growth among users aged 13 and older, which rose by 89% YoY.

Average bookings for MUPs increased in every region during the quarter, while the top 1,000 creators on the platform earned an average of $1.1 million over the last 12 months.

Overall, creators earned over $1 billion on Roblox in nine months.

Looking at engagement, Roblox saw continued success in three titles – Grow a Garden, Steal a Brainrot, and 99 Nights in the Forest.

Roblox noted that each experience “achieved concurrent user peaks which would have exceeded those of [its] entire platform last year.”

Grow a Garden was a particular standout, having set a record for the most concurrent video game players at almost 22 million.

The firm noted that experiences, combined with user expansion and content diversity, led to significant growth in hours engaged by players.

The Asia-Pacific region (APAC) saw the strongest growth, while the US and Canada experienced an increase of 47% in hours played.

Engagement growth was the highest among users aged over 13, with total hours increasing by 107% YoY compared to a 67% rise for users under the age of 13.

Looking ahead, Roblox has raised its guidance for the financial year. It now expects revenue of between $4.82 billion and $4.87 billion, with bookings ranging from $6.56 billion to $6.61 billion.
